What is CBD and how does it work?
Scientists in the early 1990’s identified in the human body a system of receptors and molecules that are similar to the molecular shape of plant cannabinoids. They named this network of receptors the “endocannabinoid system.” Further study identified that endocannabinoid receptors are present all over the body – in the immune system, the brain and nervous systems; in organs such as our skin, kidneys and liver; in skeletal bone; in muscles and fat tissue; in the heart, blood vessels, reproductive organs and the intestinal tract. In each of these areas, the endocannabinoid receptors work to bring the body to a place of homeostasis (internal balance or biological harmony) when it is out of balance or misfiring. Amazingly, it was also discovered that direct interaction with plant cannabinoids, such as CBD, actually boosts our body’s natural endocannabinoid production to reach its full effect and bring the body to optimum functioning. In an article published in the US National Library of Health, Bradley Alger, PhD stated: “With its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and virtually all of the body’s organs, the endocannabinoids are literally a bridge between body and mind.”
The human body is a remarkable, regenerating miracle that relies on and benefits from plant medicine’s ability to “switch on” our already existing natural healing capabilities. Is CBD the same as marijuana?
CBD, also known as Cannabidiol, is the non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant and was labelled as having no public health risk or abuse potential by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017. Marijuana and CBD are both branches of the cannabis family tree. While marijuana carries the psychoactive ingredient THC, which results in the feeling of being “high,” the CBD derived from hemp is THC free. Ojalá’s broad spectrum products are made of CBD-rich hemp, not marijuana and contain no amount of THC.
