As we step into a new year, we’re so often reminded of the beauty and strength of embracing life as it comes. In a world often weighed down by its complexities, the practice of living lightly—choosing simplicity, presence, and peace—becomes more essential than ever. In Costa Rica, and especially in our beloved Costa Ballena, there’s a deep-rooted wisdom in taking things one step at a time, letting go of what no longer serves us, and finding joy in the present moment.
This edition’s theme, Living Lightly, celebrates that very spirit. It’s about acknowledging the challenges and truths of life, while finding ways to thrive despite them. By staying grounded and adapting to what’s around us, we create space for peace and clarity, allowing us to navigate both the beauty and chaos of modern life with grace. The natural world around us offers the perfect model for this way of living. The gentle rhythm of the tides, the way the sun rises and sets without hurry, the abundance of wildlife that thrives in balance—all of these teach us that we don’t need to force things. Nature reminds us that, sometimes, we are exactly where we need to be.
In Costa Ballena, we’re seeing progress everywhere we turn. From the new pedestrian crosswalk in Uvita to the expansion of schools and services to meet the growing demand, change is on the horizon—and it’s a good thing. Yes, there’s more traffic on the roads (so, please, slow down!), but there’s also a thriving community of new shops, restaurants, and local initiatives that continue to enrich our lives. It feels as though we can finally breathe in the freshness of a well-earned high season ahead!
As we move forward together, let’s remember this: “The greatest wealth is to live content with little.” — Plato. May this edition inspire you to live lightly, reflect deeply, and embrace the beauty of both nature and community as we continue to grow together.
Here’s to a season of relaxed living down by the beach,
Nikki, Editor-in-Chief
