History and Nature are often treated as separate stories. Yet here in Costa Rica’s Southern Zone, they are woven together into one living narrative. The palpable tides that beat like a drum on our shores, the rainforest that comes alive after a storm, and the artefacts that have been discovered tell stories of a forgotten age.
The rivers, mountains, forests, and coastline that shape our landscape have also shaped the people who call this region home. Long before roads connected communities, not so long ago, after all the Costanera Highway was completed in 2010, Nature guided settlement, culture, traditions, and livelihoods. To understand our history is to understand the land itself; to appreciate the land is to recognize the generations who have cared for it, learned from it, and been transformed by it.
In this edition, we invite you to do what Costa Rica does best this time of year, slow down and take it all in. The energy is real and raw. We invite you to explore the stories behind the places we know and love. Get curious. Discover traditions that continue to endure. Witness the remarkable natural phenomena that remind us that we are part of something much larger than ourselves.
The Southern Zone has always been a place of dreamers, builders, caretakers, and explorers. Its greatest strength is not found in any single attraction or landmark, but in the people who choose to invest their time, energy, and heart into this extraordinary corner of the world.
